There are a variety of options available for you to pay your rent.
Housing Benefit/Universal Credit
Universal Credit is a single benefit that has replaced several benefits (including Housing Benefit) that individuals’ who are of working age can apply for. If you are of pensionable age, you can claim Housing Benefit to help with your rent. If you are of working age you will need to apply for Universal Credit for help with your rent. More information is available at Universal Credit.
If you are in receipt of Universal Credit or housing benefit, you MUST notify your Housing Benefit office/DWP if your circumstances change (for example, if you start or stop working or if your rent increases). If you’re not sure if you are entitled, click the link above ‘Universal Credit’ to apply or obtain further information. If you are of pensionable age and entitled to Housing Benefit, go online to your local authority website and type in Housing Benefit. There should be a calculator to help you assess your entitlement.
